I am not a god. I cannot change the past nor foretell the future. My only ability is to control my present thoughts, actions, and reactions, and I only have this ability if I recognize it exists and work to develop it.
Unfortunately, most do not, and spend their lives either thinking about possible futures or rehashing a past that cannot be changed. In the end, we will all die, and while distracted with worrying about the cancer we may get in 10 years or the possession we desire, we could be struck by a car crossing the street while staring at our phone and living someone else's life. Live now, as you don’t know what the future will bring, for good or ill.
I am the ant on a leaf on a stream. The ant is my conscious mind, the leaf is my existence, and the stream is time. I have as much control over what happens to me as the ant does in steering the leaf.
While I cannot foretell the events that will happen, I can estimate their probabilities based on my experience and prepare accordingly. What eventuality occurs, if any or none of those I anticipated, is up to fate. My responsibility is always, and only, to do the best I can with what I know and have.
